The Olympic Games 2028 Hosted In Los Angeles

Los Angeles 2028: Olympic Venue Map Expands Across SoCal with Focus on Legacy and Impact

The roadmap for the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympics just got sharper. On Tuesday, LA28 — the official Olympic organizing committee — unveiled a major venue update, laying out where over a dozen sports will be staged, from beach volleyball and surfing to squash and baseball. The International Olympic Committee approved the plan last week, marking a critical milestone on the path to the Games.

The Olympic Games 2028 will be held in Los Angeles, CA

Familiar Sites, Big Moves

No new permanent stadiums will be built for LA28. Instead, organizers are tapping into Los Angeles' deep bench of world-class venues, famous landmarks, and adaptable public spaces. That includes placing baseball at Dodger Stadium, squash on the Universal Studios backlot, and beach volleyball at Alamitos Beach in Long Beach.

Other highlights include:

  • Surfing: Set for the consistent breaks at Lower Trestles in San Clemente.

  • Equestrian: Now confirmed for Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, replacing earlier plans for Galway Downs in Temecula.

  • Triathlon, Marathon, Road Cycling Start: Moved from Long Beach to Venice Beach.

  • Boxing: Preliminary rounds at Peacock Theater; finals at Crypto.com Arena.

  • Cricket: Returning to the Olympics for the first time in over 100 years, staged at a purpose-built venue at Pomona Fairgrounds.

Long Beach Steps Up

With 11 events spread across seven venues, Long Beach will host more competitions than any city outside of LA itself. Coastal rowing, sport climbing, target shooting, and beach volleyball are among the events set to transform Long Beach into a temporary Olympic hub.

City leaders see the Games as a catalyst for long-term upgrades. Infrastructure improvements are already in progress, intended to deliver lasting value to residents beyond 2028.

Bringing the Games to Every Corner of LA

The footprint of LA28 spans across the region — from the San Fernando Valley’s Sepulveda Basin to the iconic streets of downtown LA, the Pacific coast, and even as far as Oklahoma City (which will host canoe slalom and softball).

The Sepulveda Basin will host a range of high-energy sports like BMX, skateboarding, 3x3 basketball, and modern pentathlon. In downtown LA, the Galen Center, Crypto.com Arena, and Peacock Theater will rotate between hosting rhythmic gymnastics, badminton, boxing, weightlifting, artistic gymnastics, and more.

“We’ve promised the world an incredible Olympic Games,” said LA28 CEO Reynold Hoover. “And this venue plan makes that promise real — maximizing what we already have, reaching more communities, and creating unforgettable experiences for athletes and fans alike.”

A Forward-Looking Games

The 2028 Olympics won’t just showcase LA's venues — it’s also expanding the program. The IOC recently approved a revised competition format featuring:

  • Six new mixed-gender events in sports like gymnastics, athletics (4x100 relay), coastal rowing, and table tennis.

  • Debuts for flag football and cricket.

  • The return of baseball, softball, and lacrosse.

  • Expanded fields in women’s soccer, water polo, and 3x3 basketball.

This boosts the overall medal count to 351 — up 22 from Paris 2024 — and further aligns with LA28’s goals for gender equity, innovation, and wide-reaching impact.

Timeline and Legacy

  • Olympic Games: July 14–30, 2028

  • Paralympic Games: August 15–27, 2028

With a strategic use of existing infrastructure, minimal construction, and a heavy emphasis on community benefit, LA28 is aiming for more than just two weeks of competition. It’s setting the stage for a long-term legacy built on sustainability, opportunity, and regional pride.
